Welcome back to another entry of my monthly empties. We’re one month into Spring here in Melbourne and the weather has been fabulous.
This month, I finished quite a few full sized products that have been taking me what seems forever to use up so it’s safe to say I’ve tested and have a solid idea on how these perform. As always, where possible, I’ve put a link to the products in the sub-headings in case you wanted to check it out.
Simple Water Boost Micellar Cleansing Water
Simple was one of the first brands I used when I first got into skincare. Not only is it affordable but as the name implies, is such a simple product to use with simple, clean ingredients making it perfect for beginners or sensitive prone skin. It contains no harsh chemicals, no parabens or perfume and does exactly what it needs to do. With mineral and plant extract, it gently removes your makeup whilst leaving skin hydrated. I’ve used a few of their other products and have all had positive experiences with them so I would recommend this brand if you’re just starting out on a budget, or dipping your toes into skincare, or simply want a basic cleanser to add to your routine.
La Roche Posay Lipikar Lait Body Lotion
This is one of La Roche’s first full size products that I’ve used and from the get go, I already knew this was going to be a good product. From the packaging to where the product is made to hearing family members recommending me other products from this brand, I just knew it wasn’t going to be a let down.
This product is very moisturising without being too thick or leaving any residues on the skin. It contains Shea butter, Niacinamide to help provide moisture leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth and is suitable for those with very dry and sensitive skin.
It is fragrance free however to me it does have a subtle hint of that plastic smell if you’ll call it that, that you often find in other brands that make products to target sensitive skin.
I can see this being a good product suitable for everyone in the family. Would I repurchase? I would say no only because I like to try out other products either from this brand or another before deciding to come back and repurchasing this one, not because this wasn’t a good product.
Hylamide Pore Control Serum
I’ve purchased and used this three times already so for sure, this is a win for me. I’ve always suffered from acne since my teenage years, especially around that time of month even till now as an adult so finding something that works was always a bit of a challenge. This product is one of the few that I find works for my skin in helping it contain and manage my oils and reducing my pores.
It has a very lightweight formula so it absorbs into the skin very fast. I like to put this on in the morning underneath my sunscreen and at night before my night cream.
Unfortunately, Deceim, their parent company has decided to discontinue Hylamide products to focus more on their sister brands the Ordinary and Niod. I’m devastated as I really liked this product. If you’re like me and love Hylamide products too, be sure to stock up if you see it in stores before all stocks are sold out if they’re not already.
Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream Ex
Laneige is a Korean brand that does skincare well. I’ve used a few of their products now and have enjoyed each of them and this product is no exception. It’s a very lightweight water based cream suitable for normal to dry skin. I found this to be hydrating for my skin without leaving behind any tacky or sticky feeling.
If you have normal to dry skin and are looking for a hydrating moisturiser that is light, doesn’t feel heavy or cakey and is fast absorbing into your skin, I would recommend you give this a go.
Innisfree Cherry Blossom Jeju Mist
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’d know that I’ve used plenty of Innisfree products and for the most part, I’ve loved them all. This one however fell short of my expectations. I thought the product itself is good, it did what it needed to do, it made my skin feel refreshed, however it was the packaging and experience I got from using this that I felt could be improved.
The spray nozzle didn’t distribute and diffuse the mist fine and evenly enough for my liking. At times, it felt like too much product came out and other times was almost not enough. Then, when it didn’t spray properly, the product kind of collects around the spray nozzle area and kind of made the bottle a little sticky so I had to make sure to wipe the bottle clean for next use.
Although the product was fine, the experience kind of ruined it for me and I just didn’t enjoy using it as much compared to say a product like the Avene Thermal Spring water which in contrast is so pleasant to use. Hopefully they improve this packaging so for now, I’ll give this a miss.
This month was a bit of mixed bag of hits and misses and the ones that were a hit is unfortunately discontinued 🙁 What products have you fallen in love with only for it to be discontinued? I’m sure I’m not the only one this has happened to right?
Until next time! xo
