Hi guys,
Hope you’re well! Spring is just starting here in Australia, the sun is slowly making it’s way out which means happy days are just around the corner. No more gloomy winter yippee! Yep, it’s that time again where the sun makes you feel that little more motivated to dress nicely and glam it up just a tad.
Chemist warehouse currently have 50% off sale on ALL cosmetics (yes ALL!) and so I picked up the Rimmel Super Gel nail polish in shade 021 New Romantic by Kate and the Rimmel Super Gel top coat. I’m sure there are other better nail polishes out there in the market but this came in under $5 each so I figured why not?
This shade is very subtle and light making it perfect for everyday wear. In the image below, this is the result after applying 2 coats and top coat on top. The colour is lovely but for a nail polish to really perform well and stand out, for me, how it wears and it’s lasting power is what makes or breaks the nail polish. You really want to make sure it won’t chip so fast and really get your money’s worth, true?
First impressions is that the brush was a nice decent size, not too slim that you need to stroke 100 times just to cover the nail bed. Application was easy, 1 coat was a little too sheer, 2 coats was a little more opaque but still on the sheer side as you can see. I topped this off with the top coat and it seemed to dry quite quickly. As with all nail polishes, I like to do my nails at the end of the night just before hopping in to bed to avoid contact with anything that will ruin newly painted nails. Nail polishes have come a long way but I’d rather not take the risk.
After a few days wear, happy to report that this nail polish held up better than I expected. Cheap polishes tend to chip after a day of wear, and especially after a shower, they tend to start cracking, peeling and chip around the edges. I’m on the computer all day everyday and did notice small signs of wear at the tips but other than that, it held up well through showers, dish washing etc. Towards the end of the week, half the nail was seen with noticeable cracks in the colour layer but the top coat surprisingly kept it’s shine and held the polish together quite well preventing it from chipping.
Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap nail polish or want to start a collection but you’re on a budget, this is a great starting point. For long lasting wear, I’d probably recommend the top coat as the nail colour itself did crack easily after only a few short days.
Until next time xo
