Hello beauties! We all know that taking good care of your health is super important. Looking after your skin is no exception and is just as important. Exactly though, how well do you look after your skin and what does your skincare routine consist of?
With so many skin care products in the market, it’s so hard to find which one works best for your skin, not to mention the gazillion steps that you’re apparently supposed to follow.
Just like makeup, not everyone has the time to cleanse, tone and moisturise their skin every single day. Everyone has different skin types and so finding the perfect skin product can be a little tricky. What I use may or may not suit your skin, and likewise, what you use may or may not work well for me and so skincare is just a matter of experimenting and finding out what’s best for you. How do you maintain your skin and what products are you using that you find works well for your skin?
Don’t get me wrong, I love makeup but at the end of the day, I just wanna take it all off and hop into bed. At the start of each morning, I just want something quick and easy to prep my skin for makeup, put my face on and get out the door. I have very little patience so if I can shorten the amount of time I need to worry about my skin, I’m all for it so as you are about to see, there’s really not much to my skin care regime at all.
In the morning after I’ve brushed my teeth and washed my face, I use an spf moisturiser to protect against those harmful UV rays. I wish someone had told me this earlier but yes! protecting your face with sunscreen is very important. I learnt the hard way and didn’t realise what was happening until a few sun spots decided to make an appearance on my face. So make sure you use an spf moisturiser!
I’m currently trying out Palmer’s skin perfecting moisturising day cream and am happy to report that it’s a really nice product. It is a little on the thicker side and a little does go a long way but it moisturises really well, making it the perfect base for your foundation. This does have a slight perfumed smell to it. If you like your products to be scent-free, this may bother you a little but it’s nothing too strong or distracting at all. For an affordable, drugstore moisturiser, this product is a steal!
After a long day at work, makeup is the first thing I want to get off my face the moment I get home. To remove a majority of the makeup, I use facial cleansing/makeup remover wipes. I’m currently using the Beauty Essentials Make-up remover wipes for Sensitive skin. These came in a 3 pack and are available at Priceline for around $5. For me, using wipes is quick and easy to remove the bulk of my makeup that’s why I prefer them. As long as they do the job, I tend to buy whichever one is on sale at the time.
This particular wipe is ok and does the job for the price but not a fantastic enough product for me to want to repurchase. Compared to other wipes I’ve used, although this is marked for sensitive skin, it didn’t give me a reaction or anything but I did find that the texture of these wipes was a little bit scratchy on my face, not as smooth as other wipes can be.
Some days where I want a deeper clean or I’m not wearing such a full face of makeup, I tend to skip the wipes and go straight to using the Bioderma micellar water. This is a very lightweight product indeed that does a good job at deep cleaning dirt off your face. If you have full makeup on, I wouldn’t recommend using this purely to remove your makeup – you could be standing around for years and using a whole pack of cotton pads in the process just to get the makeup off alone. When you do eventually get everything off, you’ll find that this product does leave your skin feeling very soft and fresh. Although it’s designed to remove makeup without water, I still like to go in with a face cleanser just in case, which brings me to my next point.
Face cleanser – the one I’m currently using is the St Ives Timeless Skin cleanser. I’ve been using St Ives for yonks and it does a great job considering it’s so cheap. Not only do they smell nice but they have small beads throughout the product to exfoliate and deep clean your face.
Then just before hopping into bed, I moisturise my face with the Palmer’s moisture rich night cream. For a drugstore product, this moisturiser is amazing. Like their day cream, this is definately quite a thick cream. For some of you, this may be a little too heavy for your skin. In winter or days where I feel like I need more moisture, this is great as it is really hydrating and fast absorbing leaving your skin nice and soft. Similar to the day cream, this also has a slight scent to it but I found the smell was a little more chemical-like compared to the day cream, although nothing too drastic and overpowering, again if you like your products scent-free, this may bother you a little. One thing I will say about this is that as I was reaching the bottom of the container, I noticed that the moisturiser was beginning to pill and flake pretty much straight after or as I was applying it on my face. This didn’t happen when the moisturiser was new and just opened, I only really noticed it beginning to happen as I was finishing the product. Does anyone else have this problem with any of their moisturisers?? This was a great product until that happened so now I’m not too sure if I will repurchase this which is a shame!
And that’s pretty much my routine! Nothing too time consuming and does the job.
Is your routine anywhere near as basic as mine? I’d love to hear yours.
Until next time! xo
