Hi guys!
Happy Easter! I hope you’ve been well and are all enjoying your Easter break. I have yet another mini haul/review for you today.
Now I did purchase these items a few months back and I have tried out some of these things enough to be able to give you a mini review on them also!
Starting with the boring face wipes, I grabbed these for around $5 and for the price, considering they come in a pack of 3, they do the job quite well. I did notice that these wipes were slightly smaller than other regular wipes but it should still be enough to remove the bulk makeup from your face.
Next up, I was on the hunt to try out new concealers. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother as it seems good drugstore concealers are pretty hard to come by. My current drugstore concealer faves are the Maybelline Fit Me concealer and Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser eye concealer. What’s an awesome concealer that you’re using at the moment? Please share.
So I picked up the Rimmel Wake me up concealer, W7 Catwalk Concealer and L’oreal True Match concealer. I’m yet to try the Rimmel concealer so I’ll let you know my thoughts when I have.
W7 Catwalk concealer – this was very light, liquidy and runny for me. Coverage is very light but is definitely buildable to reach the coverage that you’re after, but do bear in mind that it can tend to settle into fine lines. The biggest issue I had with this concealer was the colour match. This was way too pink toned for me so to use up the rest of the product, I opted to use this as a light tinted moisturiser across my face mixed with another foundation or topped with a powder foundation to tone down the pink shade.
L’oreal True Match concealer – this is a little more yellow based, has a light coverage and is also quite runny in texture. Like the W7 concealer, you can definitely build this up to a medium coverage but you will need to top this off with a powder to set the concealer and avoid those fine lines. I still prefer the Maybelline concealers over these so I won’t be repurchasing this any time soon.
I also picked up the W7 Double Up Volume mascara in waterproof and Rimmel’s Brow this way brow gel in dark brown.
I’m yet to try the mascara but I have tried the Rimmel brow gel. Having not used any product like this before, first impressions on this was that basically, it was a mini mascara but for my brows, and that the formula was very wet. Not sure if I was supposed to apply this neatly and try to keep it within the lines of my brows but that didn’t seem to happen. I ended up getting some on my skin so had to wipe it away and touch up my foundation. Maybe I’m applying this wrong..Overall it did darken my brows a little bit but I think if you want a nice defined brow, you’re better off using a dip brow pomade.
I also picked up 3 bottles of the original Batiste dry shampoo, Palmer’s cocoa butter ultra moisturising lip balm with spf 15, the Rimmel Stay Matte powder and 2 of W7’s eyeshadow palettes.
I’ve heard great things about the Rimmel Stay Matte powder, having not used it before, this is actually quite a good powder for a drugstore brand. I have oily skin so a majority of the time, no matter what foundation or powder I use, oil still manages to seep through by the end of the day. This doesn’t completely keep your face matte if you have oily skin like me, but it does keep the oils at bay. If you have normal/combo skin, this could be a great powder so only apply to areas where you know you’ll get oily like the t-zone. As for dry skin, applying just a little bit will be enough, too much will make your face end up cakey and more dry.
Lastly I picked up 2 nude eyeshadow palettes from W7 – In the Mood and In the City. Upon first glance, the shades in the In the Mood palette looks very similar to the original naked basics palette, whilst the shades in the In the City palette looks similar to the 2nd naked basics palette.
These palettes are made from tin metal and are not as slim as the UD basic palettes. They are quite sturdy so you won’t need to worry about the package breaking if you’re taking it with you whilst travelling. If you are buying this, do make sure to check that the palette hasn’t yet been opened and swatched in stores, they are held together by a piece of tape so if you do decide to go ahead and purchase, just make sure the one you’re picking up is brand new.
Inside, you’ll find the shadows are protected with a clear piece of plastic film – up to you if you want to toss it out but I like to keep mine. You’ll also find that there is also no mirror inside which is not really ideal if you’re planning to take this travelling. Instead, you’ll find the imprint of the letters from the outside of the case coming through the back of the lid.
Both palettes contain 6 shades. In the Mood palette has 1 satin finish shade (called Shrimp) and the rest are matte whilst In the City are all matte shades. The pigment in these palettes are not as intense as Urban Decay so you probably won’t be able to do a great eye look on these shades alone. There is also a tiny bit of fall out on the darker shades but it’s nothing that a bit of touch up and concealer under the eyes won’t fix.
I might point out also that these palettes contain 7g worth of product (so 1.16g per shadow) which is slightly less than the Urban Decay basics which has 7.8g of product (1.3g per shadow).
For everyday use, these palettes I think are perfect. I’ve been using the lighter matte shades as a blending/transition colour and the shade Shrimp to highlight my brows. I’ve also been using the dark brown shade called Katie from In the Mood to fill in my brows and it works great!
These palettes can cost $10 or less – there are sales happening with W7 products all the time so keep an eye out for discounts, you might be able to grab these when Chemist Warehouse have a 2 for 1 sale on. If you don’t want to spend too much on the Urban Decay naked basics palettes and want a cheaper alternative, for the price, these shadows are a bargain and perfect for everyday wear – I’ve definitely been getting a lot more use out of mine than I expected.
Have you tried this or any of their other palettes?
Until next time! xo
